Carbon fat bike wheels
The price
Built to your bike
A fat bike wheel is more than a wide rim. The hub spacing has to match your frame, the rim has to suit your tyre, and the drilling has to match the hub. The wheel builder checks those for you and only offers parts that fit together.
A hand-built fat bike front wheel starts at £640 and a rear at £724, including VAT, with Nextie Black Eagle II 65 carbon rim as the lowest-priced rim. About 7 weeks.

Questions
Fat bike wheel FAQ
Do you build carbon fat bike wheels?
Yes. Choose a Nextie fat rim, then a Hope Fatsno or Nextie Rollingstar fat bike hub, and I build, tension and true the wheel by hand in Rochford. About 7 weeks, because the rim is ordered in from Nextie.
Which rim width should I choose?
It depends on the tyre and where you ride. The table on this page lists each rim’s external and internal width and weight so you can compare. The builder shows only the hubs that fit the rim you pick. If you are unsure, email me with your bike, tyre and the riding you do, and I will say which I would choose.
Will the hub fit my frame?
Fat bikes use different hub spacing. Hope Fatsno hubs are offered with a 150 × 15 or 135 QR front axle and 197 × 12, 177 × 12, 190 QR or 170 QR rear spacing, and the Nextie fat hubs with 150 × 15 front and 197 × 12 rear. Check your frame and fork first. Not sure? Send me a photo of the dropouts.
Can I buy a complete fat bike wheelset instead?
Yes. Nextie’s own factory-built fat bike wheelsets are listed on this page and on the wheel building page, about 6 weeks.
Is a carbon fat bike rim strong enough for winter and snow?
Rim strength depends on the rim and the riding. I would rather talk it through than promise it on a web page. Tell me where and how you ride and I will say which rim I would use.
What does it cost?
The builder adds up the rim, hub, spokes, nipples and £84 build labour per wheel, including VAT. The lowest prices are at the top of this page.
