Questions
29+ FAQ
What is a 29+ wheel?
A 29-inch wheel with a wide rim and a wide tyre, roughly 2.6 to 3.0 inches, instead of the usual 2.2 to 2.5. The tyre is bigger in volume, so it grips and cushions more, and it runs at a lower pressure. 27.5+ is the same idea on a smaller wheel.
Which rim width do I need?
Wide enough to support the tyre. The table above lists each Nextie rim’s width and the tyre range it is made for. A wider rim spreads a wide tyre and keeps its shape at low pressure.
Will my frame and fork take 29+?
Check tyre clearance at the stays and the fork crown first, and the hub spacing. The EVO Prong carbon fork takes up to 3.0 inch tyres on 29-inch wheels (3.2 on 27.5), and a bespoke titanium MTB frame can be drawn around a 29+ tyre.
Can you build 29+ wheels?
Yes. Choose a wide Nextie rim in the builder, then a hub and spokes, and I build the wheel by hand in Rochford. About 7 weeks.
What pressure should I run?
Lower than you expect, and it depends on your weight, the tyre and the rim. The tyre pressure calculator on the wheel building page gives front and rear figures in psi and bar.
