Stan's Arch EX 29" spoke length

ERD 606 mm, made in 28, 32 hole. Pick your hub in the calculator for your exact spoke lengths.

Rim

ERD 606 mm, made in 28, 32 hole.

Sizes from Stan's's own website. Rims change, so check the ERD on yours or on the maker's page.

Some alloy rims use them. Leave empty if you don't.

How to measure ERD yourself
gapspoke + nipple,screwed on flushERD = spoke + spoke+ gap

Take two spokes of a known length and screw a nipple onto each until the thread end is flush with the top of the nipple. Drop them through opposite spoke holes so the nipples sit in the rim as they would in a built wheel. Pull them tight towards each other and measure the gap between the bent ends. ERD is the gap plus both spoke lengths.

Hub

J-bend. Flange diameter 57 / 59 mm, centre to flange 32 / 19.6 mm (left / right).

Hub not listed? Choose "Type in my hub", or tell me which one and I'll add it.

Lacing

Crosses, left (disc side)

Crosses, right (drive side)

I've started you on 3-cross for 28 hole, which suits most wheels. Radial is only for a side that doesn't brake or drive: a rim-brake front, or the non-drive side of a rim-brake rear.

Spokes

Used for the stretch, the weight and the ping note.

Most wheels 100 to 130. Check your rim's limit.

Spoke lengths

Check your rim and hub against the maker's sizes before you order spokes.

Rounded to the nearest mm. Between two sizes, go for the shorter one.

Tension: the left spokes run at 61% of the right side's tension. Bracing angles 6.2° left, 3.8° right.

Weight: these spokes and alloy nipples come to about 186 g (about 204 g with brass nipples).

Ping tuner: what each side should sound like
G#4, about 420 Hz at 68 kgf
C#5, about 543 Hz at 110 kgf

Pluck each spoke between the rim and where it last crosses another, and match the note. Every spoke on one side should sound the same. It's a guide to even tension by ear, not a tension meter.

Often needed with this wheel

  • A Garbaruk cassette

Lightweight 10-52 and 10-44 options for XD, MicroSpline and HG freehubs.

  • Nextie carbon rims

Every Nextie rim is in this calculator too, and I can build any of them into a wheel for you.

These lengths come from the makers' published sizes and a standard sum. Rims and hubs vary from batch to batch, and sizes you put in yourself are only as good as your measuring. Travers Bikes takes no responsibility for spoke lengths worked out with this calculator, or for spokes, wheels or parts bought or built using them.

Want me to build it?

I hand-build wheels in Rochford with Nextie carbon rims and Hope, DT Swiss, Chris King, Shimano, Nextie and SON hubs. I work out the spokes and order them, so getting the length right is my job, not yours.
