How to measure ERD yourself

Take two spokes of a known length and screw a nipple onto each until the thread end is flush with the top of the nipple. Drop them through opposite spoke holes so the nipples sit in the rim as they would in a built wheel. Pull them tight towards each other and measure the gap between the bent ends. ERD is the gap plus both spoke lengths.

I've started you on 2-cross for 20 hole, which suits most wheels. Radial is only for a side that doesn't brake or drive: a rim-brake front, or the non-drive side of a rim-brake rear.
