The Wild Dragon III 90-27 is NEXTIE's 27.5-inch carbon fat bike rim, built on the same double-wall triangular platform that made the original Wild Dragon the world's first carbon fat bike rim in 2013. With a 90mm external width and a 40mm deep section, it is designed for riders who want maximum flotation and stiffness in a larger wheel size.

The original Wild Dragon concept emerged from professional rider Ryan Melnyck, a former Canadian national champion in mountain cross country racing and multi-time provincial champion, who also works as a mechanical designer. His goal was simple: build a fat bike rim that could handle extreme snow, sand and mud without sacrificing stiffness or weight.

The triangular cross-section of the Wild Dragon greatly increases wheel strength. In its first stiffness test, the rim reached an outstanding result — more than 4 times stiffer than a standard carbon mountain wheel. The roof surface easily sheds snow, mud and sand, and the smooth rim bed makes tire installation and removal noticeably easier.

In 2015, we introduced the 27.5-inch Wild Dragon to meet demand from taller riders and riders who prefer a larger wheel diameter. The 27.5" version keeps the same 90mm width and 40mm depth as the 26" model, but its larger overall diameter improves rollover and proportion on longer-travel fat bikes.

Since 2013, Wild Dragon has become not only a classic NEXTIE product but also a benchmark for carbon fiber fat bike rims worldwide. More than 3,000 riders across six continents ride Wild Dragon wheels today — a proud achievement for us.

The Wild Dragon 27.5" rim weighs 615g. Recommended tire size is 4.0" to 5.2", with tire pressure between 5 and 15 psi.
