Round 6 of the ESES and the last round of the series to be held at the Potash woods took place last night. The weather was hot and the track conditions were dry and dusty which led to some fast a furious racing.
The mens senior race took a familiar shape with Dan Barford pulling out an early lead of around 10 seconds over a chasing group of 4, Will Kearse, Gavin Thomas, Paul Champness and Jules Birks. Jules only having ridden 1 previous round had to make his way through the field from a mid pack griding position, he soon made contact with Dan Barford on the 2nd lap and quickly opened up a lead which he gradually extend during the race, this was made all the more impressive as he was on a single speed rigid, Kudos!
The battle continued for 3rd with Will, Gavin and Paul pretty much nose to tail for the whole race, with Paul eventually sneaking past Gavin to 4th and with only a gap of 4 seconds covering all 3 riders at the finish.
The under 16's race was looking like it might be an easy win for Kieran Jarvis with his closest competition Robert Staines out with a broken collar bone. It was anything but with an initial lead group of 3 riders forming at the front of Kieran, Travis Pell and George Crocombe with all 3 riders sticking together until about the mid point when eventual winner Kieran was able to pull out a small lead and gaps started to formed in the group which seemed to yo-yo during the race. The riders finished in their respective positions with less than a minute covering all 3.
Jane Brockman again took the senior female race with a dominating display leading from start to finish.
The Potash woods venue has really matured over the series with new track and features added as the series went on. The final will be held at Hadleigh Park on the 07/07/15 everyone is welcome you do not need to have ridden any other of the rounds. There will be many prizes to be won on the day with a draw taking place at the overall prize giving for everyone who races, marshals and helps out.
Also a big shout out to our sponsors SES who sent along 2 riders to compete yesterday. I had a chat with them at the end of the race and the "bunny caught in the headlights" look had been replaced by smiles.
I will post a video of the action later.
