Potash Classic 2017 - Results Thanks to everyone for making this a great event again. The free cake from Birdwood Bakery always goes down well (even though I didn't get any!). Also to the BC Comms Paul Coulson and Mousehead Wales plus Amanda Jones for time keeping and producing the results. You can still enter the ESES complete series....the first round is a night race...how often do you get a chance to race in the dark! Lauf Forks, Fibrax Limited, Creative Cycling, traversbikes.com Results for Potash GO-MTB and Novice race.
Thanks to everyone who helped out today, especially Jim Barrow and Kevin Darragh for taking the coaching. I hope it was a great introduction to racing for everyone and everyone enjoyed the experience. It would be great to see some new faces at the ESES on tuesday. Fibrax Limited, Lauf Forks, Creative Cycling, TraversBikes.com #mtbrace #potashclassic2017 #potashwoods, #essexmtb #traversbikes Its just a week to go and online entries are now closed! You can still enter on the day. GO-MTB and Novice Information The coaching for the adults GO-MTB session will be run by Jim Barrow. Jim is a fully qualified CTC coach and has been chased by a bear! You are in safe hands with him. The session is designed for people who haven't raced before or maybe have only done a few events. He will run you through exactly what to expect from the race and how they work. He will also take you around the course pointing out technical features and the best line choice etc...dont worry there is nothing extreme! The Novice coaching will be done by Kevin Darragh of Hadleigh MTB Club, He is a Level 2 British Cycling coach and as far as I know hasn't been chased by a bear! At the end of the coaching riders will be taken to the start where we will run a GO-MTB and Novice races for 30 minutes. What do you need to Bring? Helmet and a bike in working order, No helmet no ride! Suitable clothing What do I need to do on the Day? If you have pre-entered you will need to sign-on at the Travers Bike gazebo, this just means you need to sign your name on the start sheet and collect your number. Allow 30 mins before the start of the coaching (which starts at 9) to set your bike up, check its working fine and fit your number. If you want to enter on the day you will need to fill out a form, under 16's will need their parents/guardians to also fill in a consent form. The start list for the Novice and GO-MTB event is below. Potash Spring Classic The course will be open from about 11:25 for practice. The race starts at 12:00
Helmets and Race number must be used when on the course. I started work on a new downhill section for the Potash Spring Classic. Making use of an over grown drainage channel which makes for the perfect berms!
What is it?GO-MTB is basically where you just turn up and take part at an event, you don't need a license or insurance (it's part of the entry fee). There are no points for the races, it's just a bit of fun. Many people in the race event won't have raced before. You need to be over 16 to enter the event. Novice races are basically the same thing but for under 16's, turn up, give it a try, have some fun. Sounds great but a bit scary! Everyone is in it together, the GO-MTB and Novice race will be held before the main event, so it will just be you out there. The whole idea is to give people a chance to try the sport or to try racing in a more relaxed environment without the faster riders around. when is the next event The Next GO-MTB/Novice event is the Potash Spring Classic on the 16th April. The GO-MTB/Novice race will take place before the main event. You will be given training from 09:00-10:45 before your event which starts at 10:45 and will last 30 mins. Training is included in the price of the entry fee, just £15 for adults and £10 for Under 16's. okay, say I get the bug, anymore events planned? Indeedy, 2 days later is the start of the ESES (Essex Summer Evening Series). The course will be the same as used for the Potash Spring Classic but will run in the opposite direction. The ESES will be a night race but don't worry the GO-MTB/Novice race will be run in the light (no need for lights). And after that? You can join in the main ESES races, you will have had a chance to see the main race and it isn't really that scary, it quickly spreads out and you can ride at your own speed. You need to be 14 years old or older to take part in the ESES. Lets do this...what do I need? First off you need to enter the Potash Spring Classic GO-MTB or Novice race.
Free cake for all riders an Marshals at the 2017 Potash Spring Classic! Thanks to Birdwood Bakery who will once again be supporting the event and offering some tasty treats.
You obviously dont need to wait until then, pop along to their shop in Leigh and sample their wares! |
