Sometimes there's nothing better than something rigid out front...
The nice man at Traversbikes.Com sent me a sample of the boost Prong carbon fork a few weeks ago, together with a pair of Travers aluminium 27.5+ RussTi rims.
The forks look soooo nice in the matt carbon finish (the pic doesn't really show this off), and the VeeTireCo UK Trax Fatty 3.25" rubber on the 50mm rims squeezes into them treat and provides all the cushion ever needed, while still making you feel at one with the trail. The finish on the rims is top quality too.
It felt good riding the forks down some of the trails near Bristol last we weekend which were a bit tougher than the ones at home, and if it wasn't for the fact that my hands and wrists now disagree with me doing 24's on a rigid bike, I'd stick with these babies purely for feeling so connected to the ground. I've got a feeling these may be staying on the bike for a few weeks now...
The Trax Fatty is working well, plenty of grip, no punctures and the relatively closely spaced knobbles in the middle mean they roll well on the road between trails. However, the 3.25" tyre up front may need to be swapped for a skinnier version is the trails start getting much muddier...
The XC Prong Boost Matte with triple bottle cage mounts is now available for pre-order (delivery in the New Year, 1st/2nd week of Jan) £339

The New Travers XC Prong has arrived! £339 Now in its 3rd incarnation the XC Prong has had a major upgrade. The biggest changes involve the dropouts which are now 100% carbon, the hub spacing has now increased to 15x110 (Boost) with a wider more defined flange to guide and hold the wheel before you slide the axle in.
Speaking of the axle this has also changed completely. Integrating the nut into the fork leg allows for easier/quicker wheel changes. The fiddly grub screw has gone and now has been replace by a molded dropout to hold the nut in place. The axle QR handle can also now be re-positioned once the wheel is locked into place.
