New for 2025 - Comms
We’re introducing new race official roles to make our events run more smoothly and ensure everything stays fair and fun. These roles will include a Chief Comms and a Deputy Comms, also known as “Comms.” at each round.
Chief Comms:
The Chief Comms will take the lead on race day, ensuring everything goes off without a hitch. Responsibilities include:
• Overseeing the race and ensuring rules and safety measures are followed.
• Supervising other officials, marshals, and volunteers.
• Approving the course setup and any safety adjustments.
• Handling any disputes, incidents, or questions during the event.
• Verifying race results and resolving timing issues if needed.
Deputy Comms:
The Deputy Comms will work closely with the Chief, taking on specific tasks to support the event. These include:
• Monitoring sections of the course for rule compliance.
• Helping manage rider lineup and race starts.
• Assisting with incidents or disputes that arise.
• Supporting timekeepers and marshals in their roles.
By introducing these roles, we’re improving the structure and professionalism of our races, making them better for riders, volunteers, and spectators alike.
Full training will be given.
What’s in it for You?
We appreciate the time and dedication of our Comms team, so we’ve got some great perks lined up:
• Travel Covered: We’ll reimburse your travel to and from the race venue at a mileage rate of 45p per mile.
• Stay Fueled: Enjoy free hot food and drinks throughout the day.
• Exclusive Comms Kit: You’ll be kitted out with your very own gear, including a coat, hoodie, and T-shirt to keep you looking sharp and feeling comfortable.

Marshals
Behind every awesome MTB east race is a small (but mighty!) band of volunteers. These legends give up their time to make the magic happen—not just on race day, but in the lead-up too, prepping the course, setting up logistics, and sorting results afterward.
Can you lend a hand?
Are you racing later and free to help in the morning? Or brought a pal who can pitch in while you’re on the course? We need YOU to join our marshalling team! Here’s the lowdown on what you’d be doing and the perks you’ll get in return.
🔍 What’s a Marshal, Anyway?
Marshalling isn’t just a fancy word—it’s your chance to be part of the action! You’ll:
• Stand at a designated spot on the course (don’t worry, we’ll give you a map).
• Cheer on riders, keep them on track, and maybe toss in some cheeky banter.
• Have a radio or phone number to report any incidents (which are super rare).
Not up for wandering the woods? No worries! Help out with timekeeping instead. This job’s a breeze—just jot down or call out rider numbers as they fly by.
⏱️ How Long Do I Need to Help?
We’re flexible! Join us for:
• Morning Session: 08:30 - 11:30
• Afternoon Session: 11:30 - 14:30
• All Day: 08:30 - 14:30
Even if it’s just for one race, we’ll be thrilled to have you.
🚑 What If There’s an Emergency?
These are super rare, but safety comes first. If something happens:
1. Make sure YOU are safe.
2. Call it in to control.
3. Make sure the casualty and riders are safe, wait for the medical team/Comms team to handle the rest.
🛠️ What Do You Get in Return?
We believe in rewarding our heroes! Here’s what’s in it for you:
• Half a Day: Free drink (hot or cold) + 50% off race entry.
• Full Day: Free drink, free hot food, AND free race entry.
Ready to join the crew and make MTB East events even more epic? We’d love to have you on board! 🚴♂️💨
