BUY - RUSSTi Frame Price £1699
The Russ Ti is designed to be a mile munching cross country beast that can handle pretty much anything you throw at it. Available in two versions, the 27.5+ / 29er frame can handle both wheel sizes and is ideal for the smaller rider or the XC whippet, whereas the 29+ is more suited to crunching the miles either in your next solo 24 hour race or a weekend away doing some Bear Bones Camping.
Both frames are designed around the new Boost hub width (12x148) making them future proof. The benefits of the new Boost size are; wider spoke spacing, bringing the spoke angle back to where it was with the 26" and increasing strength and stiffness, which is critical for the larger plus size wheels.
The Russ Ti is an evolution from the Rudy Fat. The horseshoe chainstay remains but it has been further refined. The plate stays that linked the bridge to the bottom bracket have gone and have been replaced by tubes, a subtle difference, granted, but it has allowed for big gains:
The Russ Ti has even more carrying load now with the addition of (2x) triple bottle cage mounts. The spacing is the same as a normal double bottle cage but with the extra hole it allows you the flexibility to run a standard bottle cage in a number of positions or a Anything cage. You can fit a full frame bag and still carry water under the down tube or run the cage higher in a XC race to make it easier to get the bottle out. Simple things like this make life easier, no extra mounts to rattle loose or straps to get in the way, just screw on and go. Combine the Russ Ti with the Travers Prong 29 and you have the ultimate endurance machine...
